This is my 45th year fertilizing lawns and enjoying it more each year. Helping each lawn … one at a time … and applying only what your lawn truly needs. Chris Elliott
AS THE SNOW MELTS, YOU MAY BEGIN TO SEE “SNOW MOLD” FUNGUS IN YOUR LAWN
This is common in Northeast Ohio due to the amount of snow we receive each winter. There are many ways to help get rid of this fungus. You as a homeowner can take a leaf rake and lightly rake matted down areas to help lift diseased grass. This will help with air circulation and stimulate new growth. The first few lawn cuttings will also help stimulate growth and remove the diseased grass (cut it low at first; bagging will help). The first application will help green up the grass and get it growing. If you want to do any seedings after the first application, you must first rake areas for seeding vigorously to help remove the preemergent barrier. If seeding is done before the first application, please contact Elliott’s to let us know what areas you have seeded or are planning to seed.
MY PET PEEVE: Do not mow your lawn shorter than 3 inches, as this stunts growth and can brown the grass. This does not mean use #3 on the mowing deck. On many mowers, #3 is only 1 1/2 inches. If you don’t know your deck height, mow one pass and use a ruler or Elliott’s Proper Mowing Guide to measure grass height. If you don’t have one, we’ll get you one. Sharpen your blade frequently.
